Studio Visit #005

Serah Chule

October, 2026

Luyando Muleya’s reflection on the conversation with artist Serah Chule around “Nguni Uteka,” Serah’s new video installation for the Mosi oa Tunya Perennial, performed by Maambo.

“N’guni uteka?” - Who is fetching/drawing? This fifth studio visit uses that one video work as an entry point into Serah’s practice, and asks what a folktale can still do when it is retold for today, and how knowledge travels when it is passed mouth to mouth, as story, as song, as gossip.
